FAQ’s
How does spray tanning work ?
The sunless tanning solution is misted onto the body. You will have an instant bronzed look produced by the bronzer in the solution, and the tan will develop within 6-8 hours. During showering the bronzer will wash away leaving the developed tan.
What is DHA? Is it safe?
The active “Tanning” ingredient is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) a sugar based derivative which reacts with the kerativ proteins in the surface (dead) layers of the skin to produce a flawless tan which can last up to 10 days.
It has been used safely in the cosmetic industry for over 30 years, and is FDA approved. Only the highest grade DHA is used in our products. DHA does not absorb past the dead surface skin cells.
How long will it last?
With well prepared skin and good post tan maintenance, the colour usually lasts on most skin between 5-7 days and slowly exfoliates away with the dead skin cells. (Some skin types may get as much as 10 days) The top layers of the skin are totally re-newed constantly. Keeping the skin well moisturised will prolong the tan. If your skin is naturally dryer in texture you may get a little less time out of your tan. Important to moisturise frequently.
Will my skin turn orange?
No, you can be assured that you will be a beautiful bronzed colour. We use only the finest grade DHA for that perfect natural looking colour.
Will I go streaky like I did with the self tanning lotions?
No – the solution is evenly misted onto the body producing a non streaky tan.
What colour will I be?
This depends on the individuals’ base skin colour. For instance, someone with paler skin will not go as dark as someone with an olive complexion. Generally, the colour would be similar to what you could expect after approx 8 solarium sessions – minus the skin damage of course! You can expect a colour approx 3-5 shades darker than your natural colour.
I am very fair, I’ve always wanted a tan, can this help me?
Yes, any skin type can be bronzed using Liquid Sun. We offer three shades of tanning solution – Light, Medium and Dark. Each solution contains a different percentage of DHA. For very fair skin clients we would recommend the Light solution, for olive complexions, Dark Bronze is best. Medium however is most often used.
Do you apply it to the face?
Yes, we suggest spraying the face so that it blends in with your body colour and gives you a natural, healthy glow. We spray lightly from a further distance to ensure light coverage.
Can pregnant or breast feeding women be sprayed?
Testing indicates that DHA does not penetrate the skin, nor enter the bloodstream, therefore it appears safe to spray pregnant women.
However, as a precaution we suggest the client gets their doctors’ permission prior to being sprayed in their first trimester.
How long does it take to dry?
Within 5 minutes you are tanned, dry and ready to get dressed.
Do I have to take all my clothes off?
No, you should wear what you are comfortable in during the tanning session. You can wear bathers, underwear, g-string or go naked.
I frequently swim in chlorinated water, will this affect my tan?
Yes – frequent swimming will enhance exfoliation and chlorinated water tends to lighten the skin, therefore fading your tan quicker.
Will the colour come off on my clothes?
We use a bronzer in the product so that the colour is “instant”. This may come off slightly on your clothes, but we have found this washes out when they are laundered. It may be harder to remove from cotton or silk (natural fibres) but can be removed with ordinary “Spray and Wipe”. After you have waited 8 hours you may shower, and a small amount of colour will wash off your skin, but this is only the bronzer and you are left with a gorgeous, bronzed glow.
Do you need to use a sunscreen ?
Yes, spray tanning does not offer any protection from UV rays. Be sun smart when outdoors.
When is the best time to get a spray tan applied?
If you have a special occasion to go to, such as a party, wedding etc, then it is advisable to be spray tanned one or two evenings before the event. For example, if the wedding is on the Saturday afternoon, then it is advisable
to be spray tanned the Thursday afternoon.
The latest you would be spray tanned would be first thing Friday morning.
It is advisable to allow at least 36 hours
before the event to be spray tanned. This time allows
the tan to fully activate and settle.
You will have also had at least two showers before the event removing any tan excess left on the skin.
Afternoon and evening tans are recommended in order to relax as much as possible and to disturb the
tan as little as possible.
